EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS
Schools have booked Samba workshops previously during activities or enrichment week, to enhance the primary music curriculum and as part of wider cultural studies in Modern Foreign Languages and Humanities. In the workshops, the students learn to collaborate as a whole group, as we build on skills such as communication and confidence as each individual can see how their role fits into the ensemble. These transferable skills learnt through Samba drumming have been shown to help with self-efficacy and motivation as students gain new perspectives and different ways of working.
We offer a great range of workshops ranging from Reception all the way up to Sixth Form and beyond.
When we teach Samba, not only do we make it fun and energising, it also comes with added benefits from developing self confidence, communication skills to cross-curricular learning. This covers languages, history, music and fitness. When it comes to learning Samba, there are many benefits it can bring to the classroom such as self-confidence, communication skills and team work.
During the session we will use rhythm games as an ice-breaker to open your workshop before introducing the instruments and building up a multi-layer groove. Students may be offered the chance to lead the group with call-and-response rhythms, improving their self confidence and communication skills. Teachers are invited to join in during these sessions and at the end of the workshop, we’ll do a final performance of everything we have learned. This could be a great opportunity to film the performance as a showcase of the skills learned alongside being a reminder of the workshop your students participated in.
As a recommendation, we suggest that workshops should be no longer than 30 minutes for Reception aged children, 45 minutes -1 hour for juniors and 1-2 hours for teenagers and above with a small break inbetween for the 2 hour workshops.
All of our staff are enhanced DBS checked with the workshop leader also having a Child Safety Certificate.
